Justin Click's Bryan Tractor |
The Bryan Tractor was made from 1916-1922 by George Bryan in Peru, Indiana. The company continues as Bryan Boilers using the same flexible water tube that he invented for stationary boilers. |

The burner is similar to all other steam car burners of the time as it is a vaporizer blue flame burner that works exactly like the Stanley burner. The boiler is a natural circulation water tube with many hair-pin bends. The engine is the same displacement as a 20 hp Stanley, 4” bore, 5” stroke, double acting. The differences are that the Bryan is significantly wider than the Stanley and thus cannot fit in a Stanley automobile frame. It is also piston valved and of much heavier construction with larger frame rods. It will make a lot of power and I do not remember what rpm and pressures it can run at. Buck Boudeman has replaced moving parts with titanium and gets some real performance out of this engine. Jerry Peoples says it will get about a 15 pound water rate. |

There are photos of two Bryans. One is Justin’s and the other is Blazick’s getting a new copper tubed boiler because the mice made a home above the old one and the chemicals corroded everything. |
