Locomobile Engine and
Castings Set and Patterns for Vehicle

Engine

This engine was deaccessioned by the Crawford Museum, University Circle, Cleveland, Ohio.  It has over-hung cranks and one of the crank pins and the connecting rod is bent, probably due to a slug of water getting into the engine while it was running.  Double acting with 2 ½ inch bores and 3 ½ inch strokes.  This model has Locomobile in script cast into the steam chest cover.  There is a reinforcing band over the middle of the cylinder locomobile insignia   Locomobile Engine
wherethere arethe highest forces.   This old fashioned standard design was very inefficient and unbalanced due to the 90 degree cranks.  However, it was self starting and simple to make.
