Single Valve Automatic Engine
I picked up the MSU horizontal steam engine yesterday and it is a beauty. It came, obviously, from an engineering lab as it has a nice bed and wheeled frame and has a built in Prony brake with an old fashioned scale and wooden brake pads and it has a built in indicator complete with the string to pull it and all plumbed in to measure cylinder pressures and it has a beautiful inertial and centrifugal governor in the flywheel. It turns over easily. Just an old-fashioned slide valve double acting horizontal mill engine, but a beautiful example. Probably a 4” bore. Did not figure the stroke yet. |
