Brooks Canada steam bus and engine
These two photos showed up in the boxes of information with A. W. (Tony) Landry’s name and address on the back.  This is a V-8 engine, something not clear from the straight down photograph.  The bus was made in the 1926-1927 era.  It was purportedly designed by Alick Clarkson, son of the famous British steam bus Clarkson.

Brooks Steamer Brochure

This steam automobile was part of the Brooks steam bus enterprise.  Several were made.  The story we get is from a reliable person who was talking to Alick Clarkson at his ranch near Douglas, Arizona during an early 1960’s steam club meet.  Alick said that Brooks instructed him (and we assume Eric Delling who was also working for Brooks) to design a steam car in a hurry.  Brooks did not appear to be serious about being in the steam car business and just wanted something to go along with the bus and for selling stock.  Therefore Alick said that they copied a Stanley as closely as they could because they knew that it ran.  That explains why two very talented steam vehicle designers produced a workable, but in no way sophisticated, steam auto design.   The Brochure as a pdf file, Click Here.
