Day-Land engine.  This was designed by two fellows in the Los Angeles area who made the patterns and then sold castings.  It was to be a replacement of the Locomobile 2 x 3 engine using modern sealed bearings and materials.  Originally it used the Clarkson donut intake valve that was

balanced so that there would be less wear on the valve faces.  There were some inefficiencies in this design because the cool exhaust steam cooled down the metal where the hot intake steam came in.  The patterns were sold to a steam fellow in British Columbia but at this time no castings are being made from them.

Day-Land blueprint
The engine was developed by Arnie Land and Ralph Day and castings were sold by Land’s son-in-law Bill Moore, brother of the late Dick Moore from La Verne, California.  The specifications were 2 ½” Bore x 3 ½” Stroke, two cylinder double acting.  It will develop 20 hp at 600 psi operating at 1000-1200 rpm.  At the present time someone in Delaware and someone in the United Kingdom are developing patterns.

Day-Land castings donated to the Kimmel steam shop by Jim Tangeman.  This is an incomplete set of castings due to a long and complex series of events starting with the patterns.  Detailed blueprints are available.
